Dorothy Slater, 91, of Youngwood, formerly of Uniontown, died Saturday, March 3, 2018 in Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg. She was born March 2, 1927 in German Township, a daughter of the late William and Anna (Paval) Schifko. She had formerly been employed by Metzler’s Department Store, Uniontown. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Uniontown. Dorothy was a 1945 graduate of Uniontown High School. Known as “Rosey the Riveter” for her war effort, she was a battery packer for Ever Ready Batteries, Cleveland, OH. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund J. “Pete” Slater on September 4, 2012; her daughter, Cheryl (Slater) Homistek; her grandson, Derek Homistek; and her brother, Edward Schifko. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Kettering and husband Richard, of Youngwood; her son, Jarred Slater and wife Karen, of Greensburg; her son-in-law, Richard Homistek, of Uniontown; six grandchildren, Ryan Homistek (Kelley), Lesley Wilson (Steve), Jason Kettering (Kathleen), Jeremy Kettering, Ian Slater and Raina Slater; and five great-grandchildren, Sam, Rhylee, Kolbe, Henry and Ben. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 12:30 PM Wednesday in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 50 Jefferson St., Uniontown. Everyone please go directly to the church. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation, 20411 Rt. 19, Unit 14, Cranberry Twp., PA 16066.
