John G. Blahovec, 88, of Greensburg, formerly of Norvelt, died Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Westmoreland Manor, Hempfield Township.  He was born May 9, 1928 in Youngwood, a son of the late Gabriel and Veronica (Hanko) Blahovec.  Prior to retirement he had been employed at Hutchinson & Gunter, Greensburg and retired from the Elliott Company, Jeannette.  He was a life member of Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department Hose Company #3, the PA State Firemen’s Association and the Westmoreland County Firemen’s Association.  He was a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant.  John was a WWII veteran serving in the Army 4025 Signal Corps.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister:  Agnes Guidas and a sister-in-law Barbara Blahovec.  He is survived by his wife:  Margaret Elizabeth (Muchoney) Blahovec whom he married on September 5, 1950; their children:  John E. (Marylou) Blahovec of Greensburg, James F. (Pat) Blahovec of Penn Township and Thomas M. (Karen) Blahovec of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren:  Rebecca Blahovec of Greensburg, Stephen (Laura) Blahovec of Pittsburgh, Katie (Torrence) Blahovec Miller of Mechanicsburg, Rachel (Jarred) Blahovec Grabiak of Greensburg, Kristin (Tyler) Blahovec Francis of Pittsburgh, Jason (Kathleen) Blahovec of Pittsburgh, Sarah Blahovec of Alexandria, VA; great grandchildren:  Haley Marie Grabiak, Michael Gabriel Miller, and Nora James Blahovec; siblings:  Joseph Blahovec of Youngwood and Catherine (Dave) Danko of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews.  There will be no public visitation.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM Saturday at Visitation Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant with The Rev. Richard J. Kosisko, JCL, as celebrant.  Interment will follow in Visitation Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.  A special thanks to the staff of Westmoreland Manor, A-1 and Dr. Larry Plundo for their care and support over the past few years.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 924, Greensburg, PA  15601.  LEO M.
