Bertha M. (Kloos) Sliz

Bertha K. “Bertie” Sliz, 86, of Unity Township, died Sunday, June 24, 2018 at her home.  She was born October 5, 1931 in Lycippus, a daughter of the late Edward R., Sr. and Amelia M. (Stein) Kloos.  Bertie had worked in the office at Latrobe Steel and previously at Pierce Woolen Mill, Latrobe.  She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Whitney, and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Lewis J. (Carmen) and Edward R. (Jean) Kloos, Sr.  She is survived by her husband, Joseph R. Sliz; 3 daughters, Virginia Dunlap (Thomas) of Latrobe, Kathie Sliz (John Davis, Jr.) of Latrobe and Sharon K. Hillwig (Richard L.) of Washington, NJ; 5 grandchildren, Ian Dunlap (Caitlin), Gavin Dunlap, Brianne Dunlap, Richard J. Hillwig and Ryan Hillwig, a great granddaughter, Livie Dunlap; an aunt, Ruth Stein of Mt. Pleasant Township; and several nieces and nephews.  Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the Leo M. Bacha Funeral Home, Inc., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity.  Prayers will begin at 9:20 AM Thursday in the funeral home followed by a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10 AM in St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Whitney, with The Rev. James F. Podlesny, O.S.B. as celebrant.  Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township.
