Fern I. Blystone, 74, of Unity Township, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at her home after a long battle with cancer. She was born Nov. 20, 1942, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Lester E. Stairs Sr. and Ida Belle (Thomas) Stairs Datsko. Prior to retirement, she worked at Latrobe Giant Eagle and previously worked at Gabriel's Retail Store in Greensburg and for Marcus W. Saxman in Ligonier. She was a member of the Lycippus Calvary United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Blystone Sr.; and her brother, Lester E. Stairs Jr. She is survived by two children, Tammy I. Gradischek and husband, David Sr., of Unity Township, and Thomas E. Blystone Jr. and wife, Dee, of Derry; four grandchildren, David Gradischek Jr., Daniel Gradischek and wife, Krista, Thomas E. Blystone III and Cortney Dukich and husband, Kendall; four great-grandchildren, Samuel Thomas Dukich and Madison Rose, Kiera Noelle and Harper Danielle Gradischek. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday with the Rev. William Weppelman officiating. Interment will follow in Lycippus Community Cemetery, Unity Township.
