Mary Palmer Obituary

Mary Jane Palmer, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 25, 2019 in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg.  She was born on June 28, 1929 in Sutersville to Ralph Palmer and Mary Palmer Guerrieri.  She was predeceased by her parents, her step-father Angelo Guerrieri, biological siblings James, Frank and Ralph Palmer and two sisters-in-law Theresa and Marie Palmer.  She is survived by her sister, Albina Guerrieri and brother, Donald of Greensburg and brother Richard (Paula) of Stafford, Virginia.  Other survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.  Mary graduated from Greensburg High School in 1947 and worked at PowerX in Youngwood until it closed and then Jeannette Glass Corporation.  She was an avid reader, had many interests and was an enthusiastic Pittsburgh Steeler and Penguin fan.  Mary enjoyed traveling and her trip of a lifetime was a voyage on the RMS Queen Mary ocean liner; touring six European countries; and having a personal audience with Pope John XXIII.  Despite numerous health issues Mary remained a spunky individual; never allowed medical problems to hold her back; and always maintained a sense of humor.  For the past year Mary resided at St. Anne Home and served as a volunteer mail carrier.  She was a familiar face to staff and residents as he scooted throughout the building on her power chair delivering mail and bringing cheerfulness to others.  There will be no public visitation.  Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass to be celebrated at 9:30 AM Thursday in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, 300 N. Main St., Greensburg.  Everyone please go directly to the church.  Private interment will be in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.  LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg is in charge of arrangements.  Mary’s family would like to thank the staff at St. Anne Home and the Step-Down Unit at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital for the wonderful care she received.  www.bachafh.com
