Robert H. Ankney, Jr., 85, of Mt. Pleasant Township, died Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at his home. He was born September 15, 1932 in Derry, a son of the late Robert H. Ankney, Sr. and Bernice I. (Squibbs) Robb. He had been an active member of Lycippus Calvary United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent, youth director and lay minister and was also a member of Armbrust Wesleyan Church where he served on the board and as conference delegate and he loved to sing in the choir at both churches. Prior to retirement he was a metallurgist at the former Vanadium Steel, Latrobe. Mr. Ankney enjoyed running, won awards at the Westmoreland County Senior Games and was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He was active with the Hephzibah Childrens Home and member of the Masonic Lodge in Greensburg. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step mother, Helen Ankney; 3 wives, Kathryn E. (Sanford) Ankney, Arveda W. (Maple) Ankney and Marden E. (Davis) Ankney; a sister, Sue Ann Palacki; and 2 half brothers, Merle and Dickie Ankney. He is survived by 4 daughters, Susan Fierst and husband David, Vickie Queer and husband George Edwin, Kathy Evans and husband Robert and Judy Ankney and her life partner Jan; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 6 step children, Gregg Blair and wife Bonnie, Carol Clark and husband Dick, Mark Blair and wife Eenie, Bill Blair and wife Beth, Amy Betler and husband Russ and Ted Blair; a sister, Kathleen Dick; 2 brothers, James and Lloyd Ankney; 2 half brothers, Roger and Wayne Ankney; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Friday at the Leo M. Bacha Funeral Home, Inc., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity. Additional viewing will be held from 10 to 11 AM Saturday at Armbrust Wesleyan Church, with funeral service to begin at 11 AM. Please go directly to the church. Interment will follow in Lycippus Community Cemetery, Unity Township.
