The Rev. Robert A. Free, 69, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, January 2, 2019 in his home. He was born April 1, 1949 in Jeannette, a son of the late Seth W. and Joan L. (Knobloch) Free. He was a graduate of Jeannette High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from California State Teacher College. He then went on to receive his Master of Divinity from Gettysburg Seminary. He did his internship at Bethel Lutheran Church, Stahlstown and Zion Lutheran Church, Donegal. Prior to retirement, Rev. Free had served at Harrold Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greensburg for more than 30 years, and Christ Rupp Lutheran Church, Kittanning, and Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Ford City for nine years. After retirement, he supplied at Brush Creek Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Youngwood Sportsmen’s Club, Ruffsdale Gun Club, and the Penn Rod & Gun Club. He was also a hunter safety instructor for the Pennsylvania Game Commission. He is survived by his wife, Bonny J. (Rehm) Free; his son, Dr. R. Benjamin Free, of North Potomac, MD; his daughter, Crystal J. Free, of Los Angeles, Calif.; his grandson, Nicholas “Nico” Free LiCata; and his granddaughter, Mila Hart Free. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 PM Friday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. Additional visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 AM Saturday in Harrold Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 671 Baltzer Meyer Pike, Greensburg, where a funeral service will begin at 11 AM with The Rev. John M. Smaligo officiating. Interment will follow in Harrold Lutheran Church Cemetery.
