Marian Moyer Obituary

Marian Louise (Johns) Moyer, 90, of Greensburg, passed from this life on Monday, November 29, 2021, at her home.  She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Donald W. Moyer; her son, Jeffrey W. Moyer; her sister, Betsy Johns (Joseph Jr.) Brecht; her sister-in-law, Sally Moyer; her former daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (Gary) Schadle; grandchildren, Amanda Moyer (Paul) Kanouff; Laura Schadle (Mitchell) Sasala, and Paul Ryan (Christina) Schadle; great-grandchildren, Ella and Isaac Kanouff, Ava and Luke Sasala, and Emmie and Taylor Schadle; as well as 17 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; Guy and Mabel Johns; and her brothers, Gary Johns, and Stanley Johns.  Marian was proud of her family history as a descendent of the founder of Johnstown, and of her father’s legacy as a teacher of penmanship for the Peterson method.  She began working as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone in 1950, retiring from the Engineering division 40 years later.  At that time, she was involved in the development and implementation of a new technology knowns as FIOS.  She was active in the Bell Telephone Pioneers association.  Before her time at Bell, she worked at the Dairy Bar in Greensburg, where she caught the eye of the man that would be the love of her life, who was working in the garage across the street.  She married Don in 1951, and they spent a life traveling together, particularly to Lancaster and Myrtle Beach, as well as relaxing at their place on Lake Stoney Creek.  On special occasions she made several culinary specialties, including pizzelles, Roman holiday, and vegetable dip, but on ordinary days she and Don were just as likely to be seen eating out at Eat n Park or Hoss’s.  She played cards with their large group of friends and was a fixture at West Point Bingo.  She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Greensburg and a co-founder of the Young at Heart group.  Unquestionably her greatest joy was found in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Nana was a constant presence at ballgames, band concerts, and dance recitals, and was easily spotted in the crowd by the striking white hair she had most of her adult life.  She made every birthday, holiday, and vacation special with uniquely designed individual gifts and clever poems.  Her devotion, kindness and generosity are an indelible legacy and a gift that lives on in those who knew her.  Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg.  A funeral service will begin at 11 AM Friday in First Baptist Church of Greensburg, 1228 Armbrust Brinkerton Rd., Greensburg, PA 15601 with Pastor Scott Jones officiating.  Please go directly to the church.  Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg.  The family requires masks be worn.  Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Greensburg.  The family would like to thank Excela Health Home Care and Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.  www.bachafh.com
