Marie Haines Fisher, 105, of United, died Sunday, April 18, 2021, at her home. She was born Feb. 12, 1916, in Frogstown (a suburb of Pleasant Unity) and raised in Marguerite, a daughter of the late William S. and Mary Etta "Mamie" (Silvis) Haines. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Henry W. Fisher; brother, Roy (Marty) Haines; sisters, Margaret (Robert) Steele and Ruth (Russell) Wilson; and a special friend, Dr. Richard S. Herd. She was the oldest member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Trauger, for 105 years, having been baptized, confirmed and married there, sang in the choir and helped with bible school. She was a 1934 graduate of Latrobe High School. Marie and Henry started their life in Chicago, Ill., where Marie taught sewing at Singer Sewing Co. and upon returning to this area became a fulltime homemaker and mother, who felt it important to put good meals on the table. In later years, she worked for Royer's in alterations, fixing and making everything fit, then in women's wear at Troutman's Department Store until she retired. Marie was a self-taught wonderful seamstress, making beautiful clothing and prom dresses for herself, daughters and granddaughters. After retirement, she took up painting, which she shared with her family. Marie has also been a member of the Order of Eastern Star for many years. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Rev. Robert) Walborn, of Annville, and Sue (Hilary) Hoffer, of Norvelt; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Trauger, at which time her funeral service will begin with Rev. L. Samuel Scheiderer officiating. Please be prepared to adhere to all current health guidelines, including face masks and social distancing. Interment will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. LEO M.
