Robert Lee “Bob” Frantz, 89, of Unity Township, died Monday, November 29, 2021 at his home. He was born October 24, 1932 in Greensburg, a son of the late Charles E. Jr. and Flora E. (Hamilton) Frantz. Despite several ailments that caused him much pain, he remained courageous and began and ended each day with a great attitude and smile. The family patriarch, he was loved deeply and respected by his family and friends. Born prematurely in 1932 at the family farm to Charles and Flora Frantz, he weighed less than 3 pounds and was 7” long. He was placed in a makeshift incubator made of warmed bricks and not only survived, but went on to have a long and remarkable life. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952, was trained as an MP, was stationed in Frankfort, Germany, and achieved the rank of Corporal before being honorably discharged in 1955. Following his return home to western PA, he met the love of his life, Ellen “Tootie” and they began their married life together in 1957. Bob retired from PPG Industries’ Greensburg Auto Replacement Plant following a 30+ year career in management. An avid outdoorsman, gourmet cook, craftsman and fly fisherman, he loved camp life and hanging out with the guys. Those who took the time to get to know him, undoubtedly became a cherished friend. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ellen D. (Reott) Frantz, two children, Edward Frantz and wife Mercedes of Sherrodsville, OH and Cindy Capuano and husband Gino of Unity Township, 5 grandchildren, Maria Shaffer, Ian Frantz, Tyler Geho, Natalie Capuano, Giavanna Capuano, his brother, Russell William “Bill” Frantz of Unity Township and nieces and nephews, Paul Reott, John Reott, Nick Reott, Beverly Null, Russel Frantz “Rusty” and Rick Frantz. He lived a long and full life, loved and was loved by his family; he will be missed. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 AM Thursday at the Leo M. Bacha Funeral Home, Inc., 2072 Route 130, Pleasant Unity, at which time a funeral liturgy service will be held with The Rev. Daniel L. Blout as celebrant. Military service by VFW Post #33 honor guard and interment will follow in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township.
