Charles S. Thropp, 73, of Southwest Greensburg, died Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born March 19, 1944 in Greensburg, a son of the late Samuel and Jessie “Cricket” (Perkins) Thropp. Prior to retirement he had been employed by Supervalu in New Stanton and previously at Charley Brothers in Carbon. After retirement he worked at First Commonwealth Bank, Greensburg. He attended Free Methodist Church, Greensburg, and was a life member, former Assistant Chief and former President of Southwest Greensburg Vol. Fire Department. He was also a member of the Westmoreland County Firemen’s Association, Youngwood Sportsmens Club and had been a member of the Red Devils. Chuck had coached Southwest Greensburg recreation baseball and football teams and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Donna K. (Tinkey) Thropp, 3 sons, Charles S. Jr. and wife Amy of Sewickley, Scott A. and wife Sherrie of Irwin and Schawn E. Thropp of Jennerstown, his daughter, Jennifer Swartz and husband Jeff of Southwest Greensburg, and 6 grandchildren, Alex, Connor, Nathan, Meghan, Trevor and Gavin. He is also survived by 4 sisters, Laura Jean Ruffner of Southwest Greensburg, Donna Freeman and husband Hal of Youngwood, Linda Klingensmith and husband Wes of Export and Debra Carfang and husband Albert of Delmont, and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Friday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg, where funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday with Pastor Tim Thunberg officiating. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. Southwest Greensburg VFD will conduct a memorial service at 7 PM Friday in the funeral home.
